These are all the elections that are happening across the country on Thursday 6 May – a Super Thursday if you like! With all these democratic goings-on it’s easy to forget the barriers to voting that exist for lots of people. Trying to understand who or what you’re voting for, how to vote if you have to stay anonymous or don’t have a permanent address are just a few of the challenges for many people during election time. And that is even before you’ve added in the complications, anxiety, and uncertainty that comes with elections during COVID-19.
Here at Pause we want to make sure all the women who work with us are able to register to vote and exercise their democratic right if they want to. Women who work with Pause are often described as ‘hard to reach’ (not a term we use here I hasten to add) and I am sure that the various adverts and communications about voting locally might not have reached them either. So, we are here to help. To help women understand how to register to vote and why voting matters. To make sure they feel safe in voting and understanding their rights.
Voting in elections is a privilege for many of us and we want to make sure it is something that everyone can do to get their voice heard. Your voice, your vote.
