Today, the government has published England’s first ever kinship care strategy, setting out how to best support placements where children who are unable to live with their birth parents instead live with a relative or close family friend. Nearly half of the children of women we work with at Pause are in kinship care placements.
Responding to the strategy, our Director of Practice and Learning and Social Worker, Ellen Marks, says:
We would like to thank to members of our Pause Advisory Group, who took the time to speak with the Department for Education about their experiences of their children being placed in kinship care arrangements and how to improve support for the whole family.
Going forward, we will engage with women who have experience of the Pause Programme and of kinship care, to ensure their voices continue to be heard.
