We asked the women we work with what they wanted to see changed in children’s social care. More than 100 women from across England shared their views, with many decorating bunting with their hopes for change. This gallery showcases the messages of women working with Pause Doncaster…
The women who have contributed messages are all at different points in their journey. The words used on the bunting reflect the thoughts and perspectives of women working with Pause and not Pause as an organisation.
The messages in the #NeverMoreThanOnce gallery – whilst varied – highlight the importance of birth parents being heard and offered specialist support after children are removed from their care, so that no family experiences the removal of a child more than once.
Despite the well-evidenced difference that post-removal support makes, there is no post-removal support available in more than half of local authorities, leaving thousands of parents struggling to cope with existing difficulties while facing the additional trauma, grief and stigma of losing a child. We believe specialist support must be available everywhere, so that birth parents can get the help they need so that it never happens more than once.
