Pause works with women who have experienced, or are at risk of, repeat pregnancies which result in children needing to be removed from their care. Through our work we aim to reduce the number of children being taken into care.
Pause helps women to pause and take control of their lives, putting in place strong foundations on which they can build a more positive future for themselves. We aim to break transgenerational cycles and support vulnerable women to develop a sense of self-worth with significant improvements to substance abuse, domestic violence and mental health, as well as improving contact with children and gaining access to services.

The difference a relationship makes - Independent evaluation of Pause
An independent evaluation published in November 2020 has found that the Pause Programme is effective in making a positive difference in women’s lives, improving their relationships with children, reducing rates of infant care entry in local areas and delivering cost savings for local areas.

Knowledge, evaluation and learning
At Pause, we learn from practice to create a continuous cycle of reflection, learning and improvement.

Getting Involved
We are developing authentic ways for the women we work with, past and present, to be involved in Pause’s practice development, service design, governance and innovation.

Pause stories
For many women, working with Pause has helped them create a space in their lives to think, reflect and move forward, sometimes for the first time in their lives.
